WALT record what learning on our netbooks this year has been like, what we have enjoyed, what has been difficult, what has been interesting
At the start of the year Room 6 was very lucky to get black, shiny, brand new netbooks! I felt excited when we first got our netbook because we got to type instead of writing in our books with a pencil. We got to have our own blog, to share our learning with the world and get to comment on other people’s work, giving advice and feedback.
I have really liked the way we can create projects on google docs make presentations, documents and drawings.
Some small problems have been forgetting passwords, netbook freezing and people can’t do their work. Mouses don’t work and people need to do important things on their netbooks and Internet connection is disconnected.
It has been really interesting when people come to visit us to see us using our netbooks. I have enjoyed watching interesting clips on youtube about our Inquiry topics.
It has been really fun and wonderful using our netbooks this year!
I am a Year 8 student at Tamaki Primary School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Room 10 and my teacher is Ms Aireen.

Hydro- Power Explanation
WALT write an explanation of how a Hydro-power station works
A hydro-dam is an amazing structure that makes electricity from water!
Firstly you build a dam to block the river. Water then builds up behind the dam. This is called a reservoir.
It then goes through the intake then goes through the penstock.
Then this makes electricity which is stored in the generator.
The water hits the turbine and it spins very fast. The electricity then travels through the power lines to houses and cities.
Renewable energy resources, such as wind, solar and hydro-power,offer clean alternatives to fossil fuels. They produce little or no pollution or greenhouses gases, and they will never run out.

MATHS FRACTIONS
In Maths this term we have been learning about FRACTIONS
I can find fractions of whole numbers like:
½ of 12 = 6 ⅓ of 9= 3 1/10 of 20= 2
⅔ of 12= 8 ⅘ of 10= 8
I can recognise when a fraction is greater than 1:
½ + ½ + ½ = 1 1/2
⅓ + ⅓ + ⅓ + ⅓ = 1 1/3
7/4 = 1 3/4

How plants grow best
WAL: about how plants grow best
This is what I think about how plants grow.

1. How much sunlight do plants need to grow?
2. Can plants grow in the shade? Can they grow inside? No because they need sunlight to grow. No because they might die.
3. Can plants grow better by talking to them? Why? No because they don’t have a mouth and they can’t talk.
4. Can plants grow in sand? or rocks? Why?No because you can only grow it in soil.
5. How much water do plants need to grow? What type of water?
Not much just fresh water
6. Can you feed plants food? If yes, what kind?No because they don’t have a mouth to eat

HOW TO MAKE A TAPA CLOTH
SKETCHING SHELLS
Firstly, we drew shells on scrap paper. We chose our best sketch. We sketched just the outlines and main lines in the shell
TRANSFERRING DESIGN
Next we transferred the best shell design onto cardboard. We also added a border with different patterns. Then we went over the main lines with black vivid.
SCRUNCHING IT UP
Finally, we scrunched it up 50 times. We did that so that it would become soft like a cloth. It felt soft.
Adding Colour
Adding Colour
Finally, we added colour to our design. We used brown and black pastels. Mine looked like a real Ta pa cloth and I felt happy about my design.
